![]() Buzz, however, learns to look past himself and acknowledge his teammates and, with their help, is able to let go of his past and build a bright new future for Star Command. Zurg is shackled to his guilt, unable to move on from his one mistake to the point where it destroys him. By contrast, Buzz's arc in Lightyear is about him setting aside his need to be a heroic Space Ranger and learning to rely on others and appreciate the lives people built on Tikani Prime. Lightyear's new version of Zurg comes off less as an exaggerated parody of Darth Vader and more as a worst-case scenario for Buzz: isolated, myopic, callous and caring only for his own ego and prestige. Zurg, however, makes it clear that his only concern is being a Space Ranger again, being seen as a hero, and everything else is irrelevant. When present Buzz finds out this, he joins forces with Izzy Hawthorne, the granddaughter of Buzzs comrade Alisha Hawthorne, alongside her friends Mo and Darby to. However, he quickly realizes that changing the past would undo the lives Alisha and the rest of the colonists made on Tikani Prime, meaning Izzy and the rest of the cadets Buzz befriended might never exist. With an army at his disposal, Zurg invades the past with his Zyclops in search of his past self, taking over TKani Prime and forcing the inhabitants to retreat into a shielded city. At first, Buzz is onboard with Zurg's plan. ![]()
